The Penney High boys basketball team traveled to Lathrop to play the Mules in a KCI basketball tilt on Friday night. Lathrop hit a couple of threes and took an early 6-0 lead when PHS Coach Rick Ross called a time out. Hamilton came back to tie the game at 8 after the first quarter of play. The Hornets held a slim two point lead at the half, 23-21. Pressure defense, timely passing, and good shooting in the second half propelled Penney to a 43-32 lead after three, and a 54-36 victory. LaTroy Harper lead the Hornets in scoring, hitting 6 of 11 shots from the field for a game high 16 points to go along with 6 rebounds, and 2 steals. Older brother Telly was next with 14 points, making 7 of 11 attempts from the field, 11 big rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Levi Norris made 8 points and snared 4 rebounds. Jaran Richman scored 7 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, assisted on 8 buckets, stole the ball once, and blocked a shot. Mason McFall had 4 points, making 2 of 5 shots from the field, grabbed 3 rebounds, and assisted on 1 basket. Korby Ford made 3 points, rebounded the ball 6 times, and stole the ball once. Drew Finch scored 2 points, hit the boards for 5 rebounds, assisted on 1 basket, and recorded 1 steal. As a team, Hamilton shot a very respectable 41% from the field, but hit only 4 free throws in 9 attempts, and turned the ball over a season high 17 times. The Hornets record improves to 3-2, 1-0 in the KCI.
