The Peoples Democratic Party said on Tuesday that it would no longer condone what it described as the deliberate, unwarranted and sustained vicious attacks on the person and office of President Goodluck Jonathan by the opposition, the All Progressives Congress. The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, who stated this in a statement on behalf of the party, insisted that the opposition must end the attack. If the opposition refuses to heed his call, Metuh said the PDP would no longer fold its hands. He said the desperate desire of the APC for power unchains undisciplined impulses and actions, which was posing a threat to the very survival of democracy and the nation. The Federal Government, Tuesday, accused some electricity distribution companies of refusing to accept electricity allocated to them, despite widening power distribution gap in the country. Minister of Power, Prof Chinedu Nebo, who spoke at the 2014 ministerial briefing of the sector in Abuja, warned the defaulting firms to desist from the act or face licence withdrawal. He announced that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has already issued queries to that effect. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has announced the devaluation of the naira currency in its exchange with the United States dollar from the official N155 per $ to a new level of N168 per $. This is part of measures adopted by the apex bank to maintain monetary stability and prevent inflation in the country in response to the drastic crash in the price of crude oil.
