The Pilgrimage Day 4 - Part 2 ... as we now walked up to the old schoolhouse that was about ¼ of a mile up the hill. This is the site of the schoolhouse where the Fox sisters would have attended and it was still in use up until 1965. For a while it was also used as a small church, but now stands abandoned, a relic of an earlier time. We were grateful to the current owner, the lovely Ruth for unlocking the door for us so that we could stand inside and get a sense of the place. We wouldn’t have been able to do so if we hadn’t mentioned to E. E Gerta Lestock at Lily Dale where we going next. It turned out that Gerta is a good friend of Ruth so she called ahead in order for Ruth to meet us. A wonderful spirit inspired event! Back on The Spirit Express our fantastic driver Ron Wiedmann we took us alongside more beautiful landscape, rolling hills, farms, marshes and creeks. On our way to the Journey Within Church in New Jersey, we went by Troy, NY, where Emma Hardinge Britten gave one of her first inspired lectures on Spiritualism. We then stopped in Poughkeepsie to look for one of the addresses of Andrew Jackson Davis. It is in now the older part of town in the commercial district. We then took more winding lanes crossing the Hudson River to get to Blooming Grove, the birthplace of A.J. Davis. Here we met Thomas Regenauer and his dog Maggy who joined us for a short drive around the area as the light of day began to fade. The scenery is stunning here, small mountains, lots of forests and farms. It was wonderful to get a feel for the area that this great Pioneer of ours spent his life.
