The Pinehurst City Council approved the purchase of a new vehicle - TopicsExpress

The Pinehurst City Council approved the purchase of a new vehicle for the Pinehurst Police Chief Tuesday evening. Police Chief Fred Hanauer will get a 2015 Ford Expedition for about $29,000 with about $3500 of add-ons such as a radio and emergency lights. City Administrator Joe Parkhurst has a good use for Hanauer’s current 2007 Expedition. Parkhurst recommended the chief’s vehicle be transferred to the Pinehurst Volunteer Fire Department as a first responder vehicle. Currently the Pinehurst Fire Department uses a large fire engine which is not energy efficient for the task or a 1981 pickup truck which has a small cab and cannot hold very much equipment in it. The council approved the recommendation from Parkhust. In other business Parkhurst was given approval by the city council to do the paperwork to change the project of a $275,000 grant. Originally, the grant was to be used for new sewer lines on Lark Street, but Parkhurst informed the council that a more immediate problem is the pumps that operate the sewer system. Parkhurst indicated there are five pumps at the sewer lift station and only one is working effectively. Replacing the pumps is very expensive, but part of the grant could cover it and part of the grant would be used to replace about 475 linear feet of sewer lines on Lark Street. The city administrator added the remainder of the Lark Street sewer lines would be caught the next time Pinehurst gets a grant. Parkhurst reported to the council that city engineer Nestor Barroeta approved the recently resurfaced Whippoorwill Street which was completed the week of Thanksgiving. The new road is warranted for two years. Source: KOGT
