The Plant Ecophysiology Research Group, at the School of Life - TopicsExpress

The Plant Ecophysiology Research Group, at the School of Life Sciences,University of KwaZulu-Natal (Durban, South Africa), invite applications for the following: • 1 MSc (in grassland/forest ecology) • 1 PhD (on the ecophysiological responses of plants to climatechange) • 1 Postdoc (on the ecophysiological responses of plants to climatechange) • 1 PhD/Postdoc (on wetland ecophysiology with emphasis on coastalsystems) Much of the group’s research focuses on the Responses of Plants andtheir Reproductive Propagules to a Changing Climate and Abiotic Stresses.Projects usually involve a interdisciplinary approach. All successful applicants will be asked to register as full time studentsat the University of KwaZulu-Natal and will usually be supervised by asupervisory team. Whilst training in various techniques will be providedfor MSc and PhD candidates, Postdoc candidates must exhibit experienceand competence in techniques conventionally used in whole plantphysiology (e.g. measurement of CO2 assimilation rates using an IRGA).Publications demonstrating this will be an advantage. Subsistence andtuition bursaries will be awarded to all MSc (R60 000 per annum), PhD(R80 000-R90 000) and Postdoc candidates (R180 000 – R190 000) (allvalues given in South African Rands). All infrastructure and equipmentrequired for the completion of the projects is already in place. Projecttitles can be tailored based on the interests and strengths of thecandidate and their relevance to the group’s research focus.
