The Police - Next To You/So Lonely (Essen - October 18, 1980) Today, December 6 in 1980, the Police bring their Zenyatta Mondatta tour to Atlantas Fox Theater. On the day tickets went on sale we got to the Northeast Plaza Turtles kind of late. In those days some outlets sold pre-printed tickets and so we still lucked into front row seats! All the way next to the wall on the left facing the stage but front row. The opening band werent that big a deal. While most of the country got XTC, we got local boys REM. When my friend Mike and his girlfriend moved over to the center I did actually say Big deal. Front row center for REM. After they finished, some folks from the other end of our aisle asked if we wanted to trade seats so they could hang out with friends near the wall. A section over but still a pretty nasty angle. In fact, during the Polices set I never once saw Stewart Copeland. Encore time and Sting shouts All I want to be is.. I mutter Next To You under my breath. So he goes again All I want to be is next.. This time I shout To you and the Stinger pointed my way. These days if I saw him yell All I want to be is Id finish it with on tour with Paul Simon playing horrendously bad music and head for the exit...
