The Pope or the Bible : Which will you believe? The headline read: “Pope Francis assures atheists: You don’t have to believe in God to go to heaven” independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/pope-francis-assures-atheists-you-dont-have-to-believe-in-god-to-go-to-heaven-8810062.html This is a perfect example of the difference between someone who follows the man-made doctrine, "Pope Francis" and someone who follows the Bible. Listen to what the Bible says (all references from NASB): How many ways are there to God? John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me.” Must a person believe the gospel (the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus)? Mark 16:15-16 “And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. “He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.” As an unbeliever, Paul had a good conscience when he was killing Christians, was he headed to be with God? Acts 23:1 “AND Paul, looking intently at the Council, said, “Brethren, I have lived my life with a perfectly good conscience before God up to this day.” 1 Timothy 1:12-14 “I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me, because He considered me faithful, putting me into service; even though I was formerly a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent aggressor. And yet I was shown mercy, because I acted ignorantly in unbelief; and the grace of our Lord was more than abundant, with the faith and love which are found in Christ Jesus.” Is faith in God really necessary? Hebrews 11:6 “And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.” Francis is showing how opposed he really is to the will of God. I am reminded of the words of Paul to Timothy in 1 Timothy 4:1-3: “BUT the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons, by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron, men who forbid marriage and advocate abstaining from foods, which God has created to be gratefully shared in by those who believe and know the truth.” And also in 2 Timothy 4:1-4: “I SOLEMNLY charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires; and will turn away their ears from the truth, and will turn aside to myths.” Truth, and truth alone, is what will win people to God. Compromising the will of God will win no one and separates the one who does it from God as well.
