The Portsmouth Sinfonia was a musical experiment that required members of the orchestra fit a specific criteria. They either had to be non-musicians or if they were musicians, they had to play an instrument they were completely unfamiliar with. Rehearsals were mandatory and the musicians were encouraged to try to play their parts correctly. The Portsmouth Sinfonia recorded two albums and played a legendary concert at the Royal Albert Hall.
