The Power Peloton is the challenge of a lifetime, it gives those - TopicsExpress

The Power Peloton is the challenge of a lifetime, it gives those taking part a rare opportunity to cycle on the closed roads of the first stage of the Tour de France, just hours ahead of famous faces such as Chris Froome and Mark Cavendish. They’ll set out first thing in the morning (4am to be precise) and will arrive in Harrogate, getting their very own podium finish. Each rider has pledged to raise £19,000, which is enough to fund a Marie Curie Nurse for a whole year. James Britton is one of the few taking part. He was motivated to do so because of his familys personal experience with Marie Curie. “In 2013 I lost my wife Maria to cancer. She was cared for by Marie Curie Nurses, which enabled her to spend her final days at home surrounded by our four children. Since then I’ve done a lot of fundraising events to help raise money for this fantastic cause, but this is by far the toughest challenge and the biggest target. “I’ve thought long and hard about Marias legacy. Her beauty, her wit and banter, how she loved children without question, how she encouraged and inspired so many are what she will always be remembered for. This challenge is not just about raising money for an amazing cause such as Marie Curie, but ensuring Marias legacy inspires others to believe that they can do something amazing as well. “£19,000 does sound like a huge amount to raise, and reaching it will be a challenge, but if by doing this I can help other families get the care and support they need like I had, then it’s all worth it.”
