The Premier squad have seen their league prospects boosted in recent weeks with results going their way. In late January early February the boys went out of both the National and Provincial cups in the space of a few weeks. Disappointing performances in both games had supporters fearing genuine title aspiration might also falter. However to the credit the squad re focused on their season’s main aim producing an excellent performance to beat fellow title hopefuls St Saviours 3-1 in mid February. The following week a home victory over Crystal would have put then joined top with Southend, but a disappointing 1-1 draw again caused concern. Then over the past two weeks a series of results has seen the boys go four points’ clears with three games remaining. Long time leaders Southend lost to Ferrybank and Bohemians while St Saviours lost at Hibernians. At the same time Carrick beat genuine contenders Hibernians 3-0 and last season’s champions Tramore 1-0. Thus in the space of 14 days a tight top of table contest has seen 3 contenders drop vital points with Adrian Walsh’s charges taking full advantage. All that leaves Carrick in a strong position but they have three difficult home games remaining against Villa, Ferrybank and Southend. Any dropped point’s v Villa or Ferrybank will leave the door open for Southend and Saviours to regain title aspirations with Hibernians and Ferrybank also watching with interest. So it’s all to play for, the results of the past two weeks coupled with Carrick’s up and down form means there could be more twists before the series final games are completed. Next up for Carrick is Villa at home next Sunday morning at 11am – the plot thickens!
