The Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda has commended the late Reverend Canon James Emmanuel Karibwije for playing a big role in starting Kabale University, which has in turn contributed to national development. Rugunda was speaking at a funeral service held at All Saints Church in Nakasero in Kampala, to celebrate the life of the late Rev. Canon James Karibwije. He died at Mulago Hospital after a long battle with cancer. He was a leading educationist and has been the Academic Registrar of Kabale University. The late Rev. Canon James Emmanuel Karibwije was born 70 years ago in Ruhita, Kirwa in Kabale district. He is survived by two children and a widow Rev. Annah Kiribwije. The Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda conveyed heartfelt condolences to members of the bereaved family. He said that he had known the late Canon Karibwije for a long time and that they worked together in building the Church, promotion of education and development of the people of Kabale district. ‘His life has given us many lessons and because of his integrity, whenever there was a problem, the person to run to was Rev. Karibwije’, he observed. Rugunda said in starting up Kabale University, the late Rev. Canon Karibwije played a big role. ‘He was constructive and focused on promotion of the word of God, harmony, unity and development in the community’, the Premier noted, adding that he started the University with forty three students and today it has an enrolment of over four thousand students.
