The Prisons Department is concerned that the legal problems in the country’s judiciary are hampering efforts to curb the case backlog in courts. Wilson Magomu the Officer in Charge of Luzira Upper Prison cites factors amongst others loss of case files and delays of court appearances that have scalated the already worrying situation of prison congestion in the country. Magomu who was speaking at Power FM’s annual Easter party for inmates at Luzira Maximum Priosn says that very many inmates have made appeals but their cases have never been heard because their files disappeared under unclear circustances. His concern came after Power FM mobilized a team of chritsian laywers who offered to listern to some of the prisoners’ querries on the slow progress of their court cases. Power FM delivered 58 crates of sodas, 300 kilograms of rice, 48 boxes of washing soap, 100 blankets, 15 boxes of bottled water and a cow that were mobilized by Power FM listerners. A team of Prisoners, Upper Stars beat a team of Prison Wardens 1-0 in a friendly match
