The Problem of Pride: Pride is the worst of all vices because it comes directly from the pit of Hell. Pride is the force behind every sinful act and the reason people fail in life. It was pride that caused sin in the heart of Lucifer. Pride is the worst of all spiritual cancers because it eats its way out from the very core of the human soul. Pride strokes your ego and deceives you into thinking that you are the most important person in life; that you don’t need anyone; and that everyone else around you is privileged to be around you. Pride blinds you from noticing and admitting your own flaws, making it almost impossible to be corrected by anyone. “Pride is a spiritual Cancer: It eats up the very possibility of love, or contentment, or even common sense.” - C. S. Lewis. Sadly it is those that appear so humble who fall into the trap of priding in their humility. My prayer today is, “Lord, empty me of me and keep me humble, meek and lowly at heart. Please remove from my heart any traces of the cancer of pride that I may learn to appreciate my dependence on you and my dependence on the people you have placed around me for my good. Above all Lord teach me to have the lowly mind of Christ, “who, although He was God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men…” Philippians 2:6, 7.
