The Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur including all involved Local Government Officials: Disapprove Notice of Application (of any mining company) for Exploration Permit of Black Sand Mining in all coastal areas of Ilocos Sur Franzes Ivy Carasi Vigan, Philippines Sign the petition In order to protect the environment and avoid catastrophe, we must oppose this kind of operation especially in all the coastal areas of the province. We are asking the authority not to approve any application of exploration permit to delve magnetite sand minerals (in laymans term, black sand) in Ilocos Sur - for such exploration is only an obverse to operate mining. Any approved proposal may allow a mining company to to extract magnetite sand minerals within the territorial jurisdiction of a town. In the recent proposal, a mining company applied for an exploration permit within the jurisdiction of the following municipalities: CAOAYAN, SANTA, NARVACAN, SANTA MARIA, SAN ESTEBAN and SANTIAGO in the province of Ilocos Sur. Signing this petition is also one way of saying black sand mining is not pro-people neither pro-environment.
