The Public Safety Building in Manokotak was dedicated on Sunday in memory of Village Public Safety Officer Tom Madole, who was killed on March 19, 2013 while serving as the village’s first responder. Representatives from the Bristol Bay Native Association and Alaska Department of Public Safety plus Madole family members and Rep. Bryce Edgmon spoke at the dedication ceremony. Madole, a Missouri native, had worked as a BBNA employed VPSO in Manokotak for two years before his death. As a VPSO, Madole was trained to respond to public safety emergencies such as search and rescues, fire protection, emergency medical assistance, crime prevention and basic law enforcement. Known for his compassion while working and living in the village, Madole will be remembered in the community for generations to come. A sign with his name and picture was erected on the existing public safety building that houses his former office.
