The Puerto Rico opening was activated this week and the change was noted on Apple’s shipping and delivery webpage. Apple’s previous policy urged online shoppers in Puerto Rico. The Commercial Antidiscrimination Office’s (OADC) mission is to investigate and take action on complaints lodged by Puerto Rico consumers regarding uneven treatment by businesses in the states in terms of shipping, availability and other issues. Daco has signaled commercial discrimination toward local consumers by companies including Amazon, Dell, Best Buy, Toshiba and Apple for not making parcel deliveries to Puerto Rico. The local watchdog agency has also taken aim at American Airlines, Sam’s Club, FedEx, UPS and DHL for classifying the island as an “international” destination. Amazon.Com tells customers in Puerto Rico they do not discriminate against the US citizens residing on the island, but the reality is otherwise. Our recommendation for customers in Puerto Rico is to refrain from purchasing items from Amazon.Com or Amazon Marketplace until such time as the policy is modified to remove the discriminatory practices against residents of Puerto Rico and other protectorates.
