The Queen of Angels Academy Foundation has been working diligently - TopicsExpress

The Queen of Angels Academy Foundation has been working diligently since the announcement of the schools closure, on January 23, 2014, to find a way to honour the spirit of the school, all the girls who have graced its halls and the ideals on which the Foundation itself was created. This evening, we held a small ceremony to distribute the funds that were remaining in the Foundations accounts. The selection of these recipients was not a decision that was taken lightly. Many hours of research, debate and deliberation went into this decision and we are very proud of the results: 1 - Annes House - a new shelter for homeless women who are dealing with a variety of psychological issues. Annes House is associated with Montreals Nazareth House. We have made a $5000 donation to Annes House. 2 - Kids Help Phone - A charity that allows children and teens to connect with professionals in an anonymous, non-judgemental and confidential manner. They are there to help with bullying, suicidal thoughts, loss and grief among many other issues that youth are faced with. A $10,000 donation is being made in memory of Jennifer Robertson and all other QAA Alums who are no longer with us. 3 - Generations Foundation - A Foundation that is dedicated to the well being of Montreals children. Among many of the fabulous programs they offer, they feed hungry school children breakfast, lunch and snacks and also provide a summer camp experience for children that would not otherwise we able to leave the city. We have donated $20,000 to Generations Foundation. 4 - Family Resource Center - There are many children who struggle with literacy and a variety learning disorders. Children who receive help in their earlier years have the tools needed for a lifetime of scholastic success. We have made a $20,000 donation to the Family Resource Center to be used for programs that help children with ADD/ADHD, learning disorders and literacy issues. 5 - Queen of Angels Academy Foundation Memorial Award - Concordia University. We have created an in-coming award at Concordia University that is based on community spirit and leadership. Starting in the Fall Semester of 2015, four (4) awards of $2500 are available for any QAA STUDENT, QAA ALUMNAE, QAA ALUMNAEs CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN WHO WOULD HAVE BEEN ELIGIBLE TO ATTEND QAA. Criteria for eligibility will be set by Concordia University. If no member of the QAA community applies for/or is eligible for the award, it will be offered to a MATURE FEMALE STUDENT who meets the outlined criteria. This award will be available for a minimum of 20 years and going forward you will be able to contribute to this award through Concordia University (more info to follow at a later date). We have invested $200,000 in this award. We are very proud of the decisions that we have made and it is our sincerest hope that you are as well.
