The Rabun County Sheriffs Citizen Academy was treated to a very interesting and informative evening on Tuesday, April 29, 2014. Rabun County Emergency Medical Services Director Mike Carnes entertained the group with an insight into the workings of the EMS. Gregg Dover, CAD Manager, displayed equipment and discussed some of the many statistics for the EMS as to the number of calls they respond to on a given day and how many phone call the 911 center handles in a day. EMS Captain Trampes Stancil explained to the group why they should be so proud to live in Rabun County. Captain Stancil explained that the Rabun County EMS has an extraordinarily fast response time when transporting heart attack victims to Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Ask any one of the Citizen Academy Members about the 9 minute record!! The Academy class then toured the EMS Center and viewed a working ambulance and all of its associated equipment. The group also toured the Rabun County 911 Center, the nerve center for emergency communication in Rabun County. Staffed 24 hours a day, the 911 Center dispatches call to the EMS, Fire, Sheriffs Office, Clayton Police, Mountain City Police, Dillard Police, Sky Valley Police, Tallulah Fall Police, Department of Natural Resources, US Forest Service and others. All in all it was a very interesting and informative evening for the Citizens Academy. The Rabun County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all the hard working first responders involved with the Rabun County EMS and 911 System for their hospitality.
