The Racine Police Department issued the following message via CityWatch and Nixle to residents living in the north side of Racine. The geographic boundaries selected for this message include Yout St to the south, 3 Mile Road (and anything north of 3 Mile in the city) Douglas Ave to the west and east to the Lake. ********************************************* This is the Racine Police Department with an important public safety message. The Racine Police Department is currently investigating a series of burglary incidents in your neighborhood. In many cases, entry is being gained through unsecured ground level windows and doors. Suspects have entered homes by cutting screen windows as well. Please be sure to secure all windows and doors while you are away or sleeping. Please utilize porch lights and other outdoor lighting to enhance safety. Residents are asked to remain alert and to report any suspicious or unusual activity. The majority of recently reported incidents have occurred between the hours of 5:00am and 4:00pm, however, residents are asked to be watchful for unusual activity outside of this time frame as well. Residents should: • Report any suspicious vehicle or pedestrian traffic • Where possible, residents should remove window air conditioners for the season, or reinforce the installation of such units • Residents should document suspicious vehicle information, including plate numbers and other information (such as physical description and clothing worn by suspicious parties). • In some cases, burglary suspects may pose as scrap metal or junk collectors on solid waste collection days. • Residents should make no attempt to approach, apprehend, or otherwise confront potential suspects. All suspicious activity should be reported to the Racine Police Department immediately by calling (262) 886-2300. Emergency situations such as incidents in progress should be reported via 9-1-1.
