Lynyrd Skynyrd in El Paso. Smokey Logg at No Frills. (note: Smokey Logg was a blues band from Dallas. Two scummy guys came in my store that day and offered to sell me two Fender guitars for $100. I bought them and stashed them in my office, intending to find the owners. Turns out they were Smokey Loggs. No Frills was about two blocks from my store and their guitars had disappeared while they were loading in. By the time I found their business cards in one of the guitar cases and called them, they were on the road somewhere. They were very grateful that I called them and said they would come back through Lubbock in a few weeks and would get them then. They had borrowed a guitar and bass from someone. When they came back by, they gave me the $100 and got their guitars back. The bass player looked in his guitar case and said Hey I had a new pack of strings in here!. I said Do you think I would call you with two Fenders for $100 and steal your strings? Geez.... 1989- San Antonio- Friday- Called Marty Aguilar, first time in a while, to see if he would meet Polly and I for dinner. He was pretty surprised. Doesnt sound like hes doing too well right now, but said he would try and meet us. We went to a restaurant to see Keith Owens band, The Mo-dels. Marty never showed. 1992- Lubbock- Tuesday- Worked at Univ. store. Ringo Starr in Dallas tonight. 2001- Lubbock- Saturday- Worked at 82nd st.store. He got very little sleep last night and fell asleep in church. We all went to 12:30 mass, then to Furrs for lunch. Took the T-Bird and Allante out for drives this afternoon. Ray Price in town tonight. I wanted to go, to see if Allen Chapman was his bass player. 2004- Lubbock- Tuesday- Met Bob Wright at Plains Capital Bank at 12:00, for lunch. Dont know how well theyll do since their lead singer died a few years ago. 2007- Lubbock- Saturday- Someone tried to throw a set of box springs back in our pool today. And in broad daylight! I was at the warehouse, but Polly came by and got me. We hauled off the box springs and canvassed the neighborhood, but no luck. Worked in the warehouse, moved some stuff to the barn. Polly says my life revolves around moving my vast amount of crap from one place to another. She could be right. 2009- Lubbock- Tuesday- Polly still in North Carolina. Took Joey to his summer job at 10 AM. I walked 2 1/2 miles around the park after I dropped him off. Worked with Doug, Markham and Fluitt. Rollo Gurss came by and brought plans and estimates for my store expansion. Picked up Joey from work. Bought groceries (from a list Alison gave me) at United. Went out to warehouse, did some mowing. Talked to McKenzie, Tim and Rodney on phone. 2010- Lubbock- Wednesday- Rodney and I had lunch at Furrs, went over his job tomorrow, painting Alisons bedroom. Went to work, very busy selling Deftones tickets. Lane and Hilda came by for ticket money. Hilda will have her baby any day now. Tonight, Polly and I met Bill & Jill Kerns at Chilis for dinner, then went to the Gordon Lightfoot concert at the Civic Center. Sat next to Rodney and Donna. Show was very boring, we left at intermission (tickets were free). 2011- Lubbock- Thursday- Called Mike and Rodney for lunch, but ended up eating at Furrs alone. Kyle Williams came by the store, I put him on the guest list for Suicide Silence. Went to post office and Office Depot. Jim Green dropped by the store, trying to sell me advertising. Brenda Krahn, from San Antonio, died from cancer this morning. Seems like people are starting to drop lately...My Ebay ad ended today, for 75,000 records in my warehouse. High bid was $101.00. Good thing I had a reserve amount on it, so it didnt sell. 2012- Lubbock- Saturday- Polly and I went to some estate sales, bought a clock. We had lunch at SouperSalad, very good. Went to work about 3:00. Tonight, had a fun date with Polly. Had drinks at the Holiday Inn, then to Harrigans for steaks and drinks, then to Las Brisas for drinks. Lotsa drinks, I know. And the Dallas Cowboys were on at all three places. Wanted to see Kyle Abernathie at Las Brisas, but he stopped playing early, on the patio, when it began to rain and his gear was getting wet. He sat with us for a while. Jeff and Jennifer Nicholson joined us, it was their 28th wedding anniversary. 2013- Ransom Canyon- Sunday- Polly and I went to the warehouse. She helped me unload the trailer full of stuff I bought yesterday in Amarillo. Larry Thompson and I drove there yesterday, went to Vern Debes house. Vern was a customer at my Amarillo store 20 years ago. He is 67 and wife is in ill health. He asked me if I wanted to buy his collection. I really hit a homer with this one. 5000 CDs , 2000 LPs, all sorts of memorabilia, framed posters, 500 books, lots of bobble-heads. Larry and I boxed stuff up all day. We had to drive back at 55 mph, as the car and trailer were overloaded. And we still didnt get it all. Have to go back Tuesday for the rest, plus go by Record Rack to buy Dons stuff, as yesterday was his last day open for business. Alison and Joey came out for dinner. Grilled burgers, had a great time visiting. 2014- Ransom Canyon- Monday- Met Poindexter at Furrs for lunch. Either Im getting bored with Furrs menu or the quality isnt as good as it used to be. My salad was bad and the hushpuppies were burned. Jeff Nicholson and Bill and Diane came by the store. Finally got our yard mowed today. He does a good job at a good price, but I have to call and remind him now. Watched Letterman tonight, he had a very nice tribute to Robin Williams.
