The Ralph Diaries~ JUNE 11 1967- San Antonio- Sunday- Watched TV most of the day. Went to the Stop-N-Go. Family went to 6:00 PM mass, Holy Rosary. Ate watermelon after church. Bought it at Callaghan & Bandera, fruit stand, for 50 cents. (note: Mrs Copeland ran the Stop-n-Go, died in 1993. Her husband was S.A. sheriff, H.A. (Harley) Copeland, died 2 days ago, 6/10/09) 1971- Chicago- Friday- Went with Kims family to the Glenbard East graduation ceremonies, in the gym, at 8:00 PM. Then Kim and I went to some parties,one at Judy Colemans, drank beer. I kissed four different girls. Danced with Janice Swanson on my shoulders. 1975- Lubbock- Wednesday- Chads birthday today. Drove cab tonight. Bad Company in San Antonio tonight. 1981- Kerrville- Thursday- Drove to Kerrville today, staying with Mike and Priscilla Fischer. Had a nice dinner, drank in the backyard. Tomorrow, I go into San Antonio, for the Marshall 10-year reunion, with Jeri Sue King. 1982- Lubbock- Friday- Worked at Univ. store. Tonight, Mike, Mel and I went to the Coliseum to watch the Holmes/Cooney fight on closed-circuit TV. Sat right behind Mike Lewis and some of his pals.They were for Cooney, we were for Holmes. Holmes won. Drank a lotta beer, had a good time. (note: Mike Lewis died in a car wreck two years later, one of my Monterey buddies). 1983- Santa Fe- Saturday- In Santa Fe with Chad & Joi and my date, Kay Sparks, celebrating Chads 30th birthday. Had a fun time shopping and sight-seeing all day. Tonight, we went to dinner at a very nice restaurant, then to A Thousand Waves for massages and private hot tubs. Mucho nice. (note: In yesterdays diary, I said I was with Kathy, my obsession at the time. Musta been wishful thinking. We were pretty much through by this time and Kay was my rebound, poor thing. Ironically, Mike Lewis was crazy about Kay and we clashed over her. I do believe he was making her car payments for her, though. He worked at GMAC.) 1992- Amarillo- Thursday- Worked at University store, left for Amarillo after lunch. Worked at the Amarillo store till closing. Partied later at Sneakers. 1993- Lubbock- Friday- Lane and I promoted Arcade (with Stephen Pearcy from Ratt). Also on the bill were Freight Train Jane and Social Disgrace. Had a good time, made some money. 1998- Ransom Canyon- Took Joey to school. Talked to Norma on phone. Mike Fischer went to Las Vegas today, lucky stiff. Polly and I took Pryor & Mary Wilson and their two kids to the Buffalo Lake Cafe for dinner. They are moving tomorrow. Alison will miss Mary Kate, her best friend. They both cried. It was sad. 1999- Lubbock- Friday- Worked at 82nd st. store. Lane and I hosted Joe Ely at Liquid 2000. 2000- Lubbock- Sunday- Went to church, 11:00 AM. Picked up Larry Martin at the airport, 4:45 PM. 2002- Lubbock- Tuesday- Alison is sick today, so I stayed home with her. Worked on my taxes. Polly came home at 5:00. Went to the bank, post office, warehouse, Office Depot and Albertsons. It rained a lot tonight. Watched a DVD, Novocaine, with Steve Martin. 2003- Lubbock- Wednesday- Met Anna Ruth and Charlie Rowten at Logans Steak House for lunch at 12:15. Worked at 82nd st. store. Today would have been Chad Banks 50th birthday... (note: Chad died in August, 1999) 2007- Lubbock- Monday- Rodney came by, finished our tile work. Then we went to Furrs for lunch. Worked at 82nd st. store. Went by Univ. store, paid the guys there. Drove to the strip, bought a case of Miller Chill beer (its great!) and a dozen gizzards for dinner. 2009- Lubbock- Thursday- Paid Alfredo $200 for yard work today. Hes good, not cheap. Larry and Karen Martin came by the store. I made a music CD for Larrys moms funeral tomorrow. They looked good, hadnt changed much. Polly and I had dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings. Talked to Steve tonight. He and Normas divorce announcement was in the paper this morning. Could get messy. 2010- Lubbock- Friday- Went to some estate sales, bought 98 glass blocks for our shower project, for $30. Met Ted, the plumber, and the guys from Carpet Solutions at the townhouse. Carpet guys sprayed some kinda enzymes on the carpet for the dog odor. Ted worked on the AC unit. Drove to the warehouse, dropped off the glass bricks, watered the trees. The Alstons came to town today, had dinner with Art Willey, came by our house about 9:30. Ashley spending the night with us. 2011- Lubbock- Saturday- Spent most of the day getting stuff ready for our cruise tomorrow. Met Polly and Joey at Kohls to buy Joey some new clothes. Polly and I ate lunch at Blue Sky, then went to Mens Wearhouse, bought two new sport coats.Went to my store, paid my employees for next week. Had dinner from Dions Pizza. I keep thinking of more stuff Im forgetting to do. 2012- Lubbock- Monday- Mailed out most of Joeys Thank You cards for graduation gifts. He really banked! Went to Home Depot, bought a new window shade for store door. Came home for Pollys spaghetti dinner. Finished my book, Trail of Blood, about a Lubbock murder in 91. 2013- Ransom Canyon- Tuesday- Alison called this morning and her car wouldnt start. Joey took her to work. Polly and I decided to drive over and see if we could start it. It was just a loose battery cable. We drove it over to the bank and left it in the parking lot. So, lets see, in the last few days, Ive had nothing but trouble with my properties. The yard guys said they would work on my damaged willow tree in the front yard. They took off (Saturday), havent seen them since. Called Josh Sanders, the yard guy, wont call me back. Leakey realtor called to say there were large broken limbs on my Twin Forks house. Called David and Foodge, the two yard guys I know down there. Neither will return my calls. The 81st St. house has a filthy swimming pool with black algae forming. My pool guy, Bruce, quit showing up and wont take my calls. The family that was interested in the house has changed their minds. John Sakmar is working on my damaged rent property fences. He informed me that one of the fences I had him fix was not even mine, belongs to the neighbor. At the 46th st. house, the 85- year old French lady, Dee Dee, who lives next door, called, yelling in her thick accent, that I owed her $75 for a tree falling on her air conditioner two years ago, and now, there were two trespassers on her property, that I had hired, and she was calling the cops. Calmed her down and she ended up bringing out milk and cookies for John and his helper. Thought I had the Broadway property sold, but the guy, Joe Rose, a total flake, backed out because they measured the building and it was 100 sq. ft. smaller than what was on the tax records. Oh, well, I get $500 for his termination of the deal. Talked to my insurance company about the storm damage at my warehouse. They will cover none of it. Insurance is such a farce. My fence is down, my storage building is off its foundation and my roof trim is hanging down to the parking lot and none of it is covered. Called Rollo Gurss. He will return calls and do the work for me. Hes the one who built my store expansion. So, anyway, after I delivered Alisons car to her, I was in town, so went to work, early, which surprised my employees. I decided to make the most of my time and did some much-needed cleaning and organizing. I need a drink. 2014- Ransom Canyon- Wednesday- Had lunch at home, exercised, cleaned house. Worked at the store all day. Very hectic. Joey came by for a while, agreed to check on Max this weekend for us. Tonight, texted David Kelley for a long time. He is in San Angelo, trying to sell his parents house. Hes staying at a Motel 6 and the power is out all over the city, from a tornado and bad weather. He had no lights, no TV, no AC, and was out in his truck with the AC going, trying to figure out what to do, Said the desk clerk closed up and left, so he wouldnt have to deal with it. Pretty funny.
