The Randolph County Commission approved on Thursday $25,000 for emergency repairs to Harman School. This money will come from coal severance funds. Superintendent Terry George said the school system is securing funds and currently has $55,000 in a local bank account. George will also ask the school board for additional funds from the countys levy maintenance fund. George said he feels confident that repairs will begin soon. We begin construction to bring our building back up to safe occupancy code, at least in the ingress and egress area for the entrance of the building. The main office, secretarys office, rest rooms, cafeteria, kitchen and hallway. That will permit us to put the elementary students back in, Pre-K through Five, said George. The second phase will continue acquiring additional funding to the other repairs needed to bring back the remaining students. The board of education decided to temporarily close the school, after a large section of plaster fell from the ceiling last month. Students will attend four other area schools temporarily until repairs are completed. School in Randolph County begins on August 14. A fundraiser will be held by citizens of Harman on August 9 starting at 1:30 p.m., at the Harman Fire Hall. The fundraiser will feature a dinner, bake sale and games for the kids.
