The Rapid City Police Department and Pennington County Sheriffs Office are investigating the death of a 5-month child. At 5:30 a.m. on Sept. 2, police were called to the Colonial Motel at 511 E. North Street for an unresponsive child. The boy, Joaquin Waters, was not breathing when police arrived. He was declared deceased at the scene. Both his mother and father were at the residence at the time. Preliminary autopsy results indicate that Waters died of head trauma. The case is being treated as a homicide, and remains under investigation. No arrests have been made at this time.
