The Realities of Being more True to Yourself through your Business By Lauren Fleiser September 10, A lot of entrepreneurs start a business because they feel it will allow them to have more control over their own destiny and be more true to themselves, but many do not realise just how complex this notion can be.At the surface level, the entrepreneur would like to be their own boss, to structure their own hours and to not have to report to anyone else . On a deeper level, the entrepreneur’s willingness to go out on their own is also based on their desire to do something that they are good at and that they enjoy doing. If one takes this feeling even deeper, the entrepreneur feels passionate about what they have chosen to do and finds meaning through their passion as well as meaning through the impact that their passion has on others. I would argue that an entrepreneur who is being true to themselves goes even deeper than this. In this state of being, he or she is expressing his or her very essence and what he or she creates reflects him or her as a human being, in all his or her uniqueness, on all levels and allows him or her to achieve their full human potential. This entrepreneur creates from within instead of listening to the opinions of others and is able to find self expression, work on their personal self mastery and indeed make a profound impact on others while doing so, because their intent and what they are creating is so authentic. They are also able to be more themselves from the way they dress, to the way they structure their day to the customers and suppliers they choose to attract and work with. The concept of creating in this way and of being true to yourself is a fluid concept. You need to tap into your ability as a human being to create for yourself, to think for yourself and to manifest what it is that you want, through both inspired decisions and actions as well as daily decisions and actions. In many ways, this is can be likened to the law of attraction. However, if you choose to be more true to yourself in this life and you choose to do this through the path of creating your own business, your two decisions are actually at odds. While being true to yourself and manifesting what you want is a more fluid concept, a business is actually a structured construct with rules of how to play the game that have very little to do with you being true to yourself at all. The reason why so many people get stuck as entrepreneurs and end up struggling, is that their fluid creations are being forced into these structured constructs which include things like sales, numbers, legislation and strategy.I created the word “Trutrepreneur®” (say: troo-trup-ren-er) to reflect this crazy,at odds journey that we as entrepreneurs are on. On the one side of the word, the prefix “Tru-“ reflects the fluid way in which are able to manifest and create as human beings in order to be more true to ourselves. On the other side of the word the “ –trepreneur” represents the structured framework of business that makes us do the things that we are not very good at, or passionate about, or that reflect who we are, such as selling or strategising or accounting.I have made it my life’s work to help entrepreneurs to achieve this complex, at odds notion of “being true to yourself through your business”. This involves learning how to put the “Tru-“ aspect of yourself into all the aspects of your business. It also requires ensuring that the structures that you do create are more fluid in order to allow you to keep expressing yourself as your journey progresses.
