The Reality of Sacrifice In the Bible, the most holy day centers on a goat. A goat isnt a high status animal. Yet on Yom Kippur, the most holy and sacred day of the Hebrew calendar, is centered on a goat called Lazazael - the Scapegoat. This goat had to be sent away and disappear into the wilderness. Then the most holy day was fulfilled. The day became holy because a goat disappeared. When you look at yourself, its easy to see...a goat. The old self is pretty much a goat. You see all your faults - its not attractive - you see a goat. Then you must remind yourself that goats are potentially holy. They made Yom Kippur the most holy day of the year by making themselves disappear. When you feel like a goat, make yourself disappear. Die to yourself, get out of the way, and stop dwelling on your faults. In the grace of God, you have the power to do that. Stop dwelling on that goat - so you can start dwelling on the Lamb. It will become for you a most holy day - as soon as you make that goat disappear. Todays Mission Set this day for letting the old you disappear; forgetting about yourself; not dwelling on you; but getting lost in His goodness. Romans 8:1-2 8 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. The Solution Is Life on God’s Terms With the arrival of Jesus, the Messiah, that fateful dilemma is resolved. Those who enter into Christ’s being-here-for-us no longer have to live under a continuous, low-lying black cloud. A new power is in operation. The Spirit of life in Christ, like a strong wind, has magnificently cleared the air, freeing you from a fated lifetime of brutal tyranny at the hands of sin and death. Use your expectations Expect to make a difference today. Then do it. Expect to use what you have, from where you are, to create new and meaningful value. Expect to use your time and skills to add real goodness to life. Expect to be kind, considerate, interested and helpful. Expect to be patient, understanding, generous and truthful. Expect bright new opportunities to come your way, and you’ll see them when they do. Expect to find wonder and beauty, and they’ll delight you everywhere you go. Expect to make this the most fulfilling day yet, then act to make it so. Expect more of yourself than ever before, and see how much you grow. Use your expectations to create a shining path in front of you. Then walk that path with persistence and passion, and make your dreams come true. Pure Peace Why do we find it hard to be at peace with ourselves, each other and the world? Imagine a lake that is flat and calm and pure – it is so clear you can see the bottom. Even when the wind blows it only ruffles the surface. All is still and peaceful in its depth. Then the first polluting chemicals of the new factory and farm come rolling down the hill and into the water. Immediately it starts to cloud over and bubble a little. Chemical reactions are taking place and the purity is lost. When purity is lost peace is lost. It is the same with human consciousness. We are innately peaceful beings. Peace is our deepest inner state of being, our true nature. To be at peace is to be in our natural state, but only when our consciousness is pure and clean and true. As soon as the pollutants of any negative images are allowed in, or we allow old memories and experiences to disturb us into negative thinking, our purity and therefore our inner peace are gone. It’s not the external event or person that takes our peace away – it’s because we give them permission to enter and give them life in our minds.
