The Rebirth of Japanese MMA The Japanese mixed martial arts organization PRIDE used to be the face of MMA. When that promotion dissolved, it left a void in a market that only a few years ago had been thriving. Fortunately the UFC has now emerged in the East, giving millions of eager fans the opportunity to once again watch the toughest fighters in the world go head-to-head. While this rebirth of MMA in Japan is new to some, local fight fans have long been plugged in to UFC events via their cell phones or cable TV. Fan momentum has lead to the widely-publicized heavyweight headlining match between Mark Hunt and Roy Nelson to be held at UFC Fight Night on Sep. 20 at Saitama Super Arena, a massive 20,000-seat arena in the heart of Japan. VICE follows UFC fans Shizuka Sugiyama and Brittany Decker out on the town to see how popular UFC is in Tokyo. #FightNightJapan youtu.be/ffeXJtE4pyQ
