The Regions National Programs Chair position is a demanding one in and of itself, because the sorority has so many service projects we support. Because our National Programs Chair, Soror Juanita Shaw is so very active in the sorority, her community and is so service oriented, she also lends her support to numerous other projects. As we are close to closing the door on the month of September, we would like to remind you that this is Sickle Cell Awareness Month. Sickle Cell Facts: - It is a genetic condition that is present at birth and is inherited when a child receives a Sickle Cell from each parent. -A parent can be a Sickle Cell disease carrier, which is known as having a Sickle Cell Trait, but not have full blown Sickle Cell disease themselves. -1 out of every 12 African Americans has Sickle Cell trait -1 out of every 500 African Americans has Sickle Cell disease -While more common among the African American and Latino communities, it is possible for persons from any ethnic background to have Sickle Cell trait. Congratulations to the Sorors of Zeta Sigma Chapter, St. Louis, MO. along with our National Programs Chair, Soror Juanita Shaw on their successful participation in the Alton, IL Sickle Cell Walk on Saturday, September 20, 2014! We are going to file this one under Sisterhood and Service! We think you are most definitely #CENTRALUnbreakable! Be informed, be aware and be progressive!
