The Regular Occurrence of Moyog Flood - The Flood on 23-10-14. The flood that occurred on 23-10-14 was the third time within the last two months that has affected those areas along the upper river from Dambai Bridge right up to Kolopis or Inobong perhaps. Whilst those areas along the lower river from Dambai Bridge did not register much damage this time. Why? 1. The reclamation of the river bank at the on-going construction of Dambai Bridge, has caused the river narrowed or constricted thus limiting/restricting the volume of flood water flowing through it. 2. Once the flood water is restricted to flow at Dambai Bridge naturally the flood water rises and overflows into those areas along the upper river. Villages like Penampang Proper and Dungkahang are the first to experience flooding, whilst the lower part of Moyog River (downstream of Dambai Bridge) experience lower flood water than thos n upstream. 3. The flood water at the upstream is further exacerbated by the Penampang-Papar Road that is acting as Levees. Unless the flood water level has breached the road level, those Kampongs along the lower stream would suffer in as much as those Kampongs in upper stream. 4. Should the Government decide to increase the road level from Donggongon to Lok Kawi, you can be assured of higher flood levels to occur at areas along the upper stream from Dambai Bridge. 5. And if the present Moyog River is left silted, you can be assured of frequent flooding to occur in future. Villages like Inobong, Kolopis, Tuavon, Dungkahang and Penampang Proper will continue to experience the wrath of the Raging Moyog River if this river is not desilted, widened or the meanders straightened at some sections!
