The Relationship Between Faith and Moral Behavior. There is an interesting and very significant fact: People all over the world believe that it is good to tell the truth, to be honest, to fulfill your promises, and so on. And this has been the case throughout human history. What does this mean? How can this consensus be explained? The Islamic explanation is that these moral values have their basis in human nature. Islam, unlike Christianity, teaches that human beings are born good. Some people have erroneously deduced from this that morality has nothing to do with religion. This is wrong firstly because it is one thing to admit that these moral values are good, and quite another to practice them. And secondly because true religion, in the sense that God alone should be worshipped, is itself part of that original good human nature, called in Islam, fitra. It is because people retain this fitra, or at least some part of it that they behave morally, and it is because of this that they can see the truth and goodness of revealed religion.
