The Rez Radio Song of the Week was a hit for doo wop group The Vogues in 1963. It got a new lease on life in pre-flash mob 1996 when the opening episode of Drew Careys sitcom began its second season on September 18 with a full-on dance routine choreographed to Five OClock World. The bit and the song proved so popular, it replaced Moon Over Parma as the shows theme song for the rest of season 2, the working class sentiment of the lyrics aptly fitting the premise of the show, based in Cleveland. By season three, Ian Hunters Cleveland Rocks as performed by The Presidents of the United States became Drews theme song. The Drew Carey Show lasted for 233 episodes over 9 seasons. Drew was the only character to appear in every episode. Kathy Kinney as his nemesis, Mimi Bobeck was in 232 of them. Formed at Turtle Creek High School in a suburb of Pittsburgh in 1958, The Vogues were originally called the Val-Aires. They had one hit as the Val-Aires in 1959, were favorites of DJs on KDKA and later KQV, opening local concerts for the Dell, the Drifters and the Platters. Once several of the members completed enlistments in the Army, they re-formed as the Vogues, managed by the guy that created Lou Christies career. Their first hit was a cover of Petula Clarks Youre the One which charted higher in this country than the original. Later in 1965, they once again went to #4 with Five OClock World - their biggest hit. It took until 1968 to get back into the top ten with out of touch for the time nostalgic remakes of Turn Around, Look at Me, My Special Angel, and Earth Angel. Various member have continued to tour ever since on the nostalgia circuit.youtube/watch?v=L3wMesI8aiw
