The Rez Radio Song of the Week was released this week in 1967. For What Its Worth by Buffalo Springfield was written by lead singer Stephen Stills about an incident two months earlier on LAs Sunset Strip. Still a major club scene, Sunset Boulevard was the epicenter of night life and the music industry in the 60s and at the onset of the psychedelic era, local residents and businesses didnt like it. They got a 10p curfew enacted. Club goers and music fans took exception and planned a demonstration (a popular 60s activity) for Saturday, November 12, 1966. KHJ and other local radio stations publicized a rally to be held at Pandoras Box, a club at the corner of Sunset and Crescent Heights. About a thousand protesters showed up including future celebrities Jack Nicholson and Peter Fonda which turned into the first of the Sunset Strip riots. The song is unusual in that nowhere in the lyrics is the title mentioned. According to Stills, it came to be named when he first presented the song to Atlantic Records exec Ahmet Ertegun, saying I have this song here, for what its worth, if you want it. This particular video cut to the studio version of the song includes some news footage of the incident the song describes. The Pharrell Williams hat award special mention go to lead guitarist Neil Youngs mutton chop sideburns. https://youtube/watch?v=gp5JCrSXkJY
