The Right to Dream (RtD) Academy and Tullow Ghana Ltd have today launched a partnership agreement. The partnership will see Africa’s leading independent oil company invest $250,000 annually for 5 years in Africa’s leading football academy. Tullow Ghana’s investment is the cornerstone of the company’s agenda for creating shared prosperity through sports. The investment, which is for at least three years, will provide significant support to RtD’s vision of offering talented, underprivileged children the opportunity to fulfil their true potential in life – through football, education and character development – and in so doing claim a better future for their communities and country. The partnership will enable RtD to expand and enhance its activities, such as its nationwide recruitment events and an expansion plan to implement Right to Dream facilities within selected schools in cities around Ghana, giving even more young Ghanaians the chance to benefit from the RtD programme. Together with world-class football training and character development, these opportunities will enable talented youths to grow up valuing their education, with the capacity to positively contribute to their communities. For fifteen years, Right to Dream has sought to unearth the talent that exists in Ghana, and provide those young Ghanaians with the opportunity to fulfil their potential. The impact of the investment in these talented youngsters is already showing: · 17 students and graduates – including Abdul Majeed Waris, who scored three goals in helping Ghana to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and Fuseina Mumuni, currently representing Ghana at the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica – have achieved international honours with the Ghana national teams; · 24 RtD graduates have signed professional football contracts - including Mohammed Abu, David Accam, Bismark Adjei-Boateng. Emmanuel Boateng and Godsway Donyoh - with several graduates securing contracts with English Premier League giants, Manchester City; · 40 RtD graduates are furthering their education on student athlete scholarships at leading colleges and universities in the United States of America and the United Kingdom The partnership with Tullow Ghana will strengthen and embolden RtD’s commitment to developing Ghana’s next generation of role models and leaders. Speaking at the launch of the partnership between Right to Dream and Tullow Ghana, the Founder and CEO of Right to Dream, Tom Vernon, commented: Tom Vernon, Founder and CEO of Right to DreamWe are proud to be partnering with Tullow - one of Ghana’s biggest companies. For fifteen years we have tried and succeeded in making a meaningful contribution to the development of the nations youth, through education and through Africas passion – football. Tullow’s recognition of our contribution, and their ambition to join us in making a bigger and bolder contribution moving forward will have a great impact on the lives of many young Ghanaians and hopefully, in the long term, the fortunes of the Black Stars and Black Queens. I thank Tullow for their vision and faith, and look forward to extending the world class opportunities we offer in football and education to more young Ghanaians as a result of their support. Together we will make it happen. RtD Captain, Collins Tanor, reflected on the impact of the partnership: “I think that for an Academy like Right to Dream to get such a sponsor, it tells you how far we have come. This partnership will be a great support to the students of Right to Dream and create many more opportunities for the youth of Ghana. On behalf of the students of Right to Dream, I can say we will do our utmost to reflect the faith Tullow has shown in us.” Commenting on the partnership, Charles Darku, General Manager of Tullow Ghana Ltd, said: “The launch of this partnership is a landmark moment for Tullow, as the company seeks to extend and enhance its agenda for creating shared prosperity in Ghana. Our ambition is to ensure that people, particularly in the areas of our operation and generally in the countries where we operate, benefit from our activities. In line with this agenda, our focus is on developing local capacity to support socio-economic growth. We have consequently undertaken a number of projects and initiatives in Ghana to facilitate education, create employment, build infrastructure and develop local small and medium sized businesses. We see development of sports as a key part of helping to create shared prosperity in countries where we operate; in Africa and particularly in Ghana, there’s only one sport that unites the continent like no other: football. “Therefore, Tullow is proud to partner the Right to Dream Academy to shape the future of our youth through football in particular and sports in general. We look forward to a fruitful relationship with the Academy where we, together, build on the successes achieved to date to make an even bigger impact on Ghana.”
