The Rockin PF Out concert was a great success! Read more from Team PFF event organizers Bruce and Vickie Williamson. Vickie and I started working with Mike Henderson (Chairman of the PFF Board of Directors and Portland, OR PFF Support Group Facilitator) in August. We wanted to have a meaningful event to represent Portland for September, Global PF Awareness Month. Vickie and I very much wanted to honor the spirit of service that the many dedicated folks before us have shown. We’re inspired by the service of the former lung transplant patients and their caregivers that continue to attend the support groups subsequent to their transplants and help folks like Vickie and I. It has been vital to us to meet, discuss and become friends with those that have gone down the path before us. These folks show us the way and show us that we too can successfully get on the other side of IPF and a lung transplant. Vickie and I have every intention of giving back in the same way after my lung transplant. This specific identification, fellowship and friendship, which can’t be found elsewhere, is very important to us. Also, we’ve made friendships with folks like us that are still dealing with IPF and lung disease and these folks are just as important to us. I cant do this alone but we do this together - thats my motto. We saw the need, we received the request and we knew we needed to help. Vickie and I discussed organizing a benefit “walk” but knew almost immediately that we were best suited to try for a benefit concert. We discussed the idea with Vickie’s brother, a member of my band, and Doug Rowell agreed to be the musical director for the event. When we had roughly planned out how we would work with artists and that Doug was on board to help, all three of us knew that we could make this successfully work. Doug started rounding up the artists, Lisa Grosse did a tremendous amount of work on the raffle and silent auction. We’re happy to report that we feel like we accomplished all of our goals and we’re very grateful with the outcome. The benefit, by all accounts, was a total success. It has been a pleasure working with the folks at the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. They helped us at every step of the way when we asked for direction and we feel like weve made some new friends. Bruce Williamson Quote from Mike Henderson, Chairman of the PFF Board of Directors and Portland, OR PFF Support Group Facilitator, “It was a privilege to participate in this incredible gathering of musicians and friends. Three musicians from Portland’s blues community were directly affected by IPF, two who have the disease and one whose father passed away from it last year. The Portland blues community is tight and the outpouring of affection for Vickie and Bruce, the music and the generosity were all truly amazing. This was a great opportunity to spread the word about this terrible disease and to let people know what the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation is doing to help patients and their families deal with the consequences.” Are you ready to host an event in 2015 to benefit the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation? If so, please send an email to [email protected] who can help you!
