The Role of the King In ancient KMT the king was endowed with divine power so he could maintain universal order and justice against the forces of chaos and evil. The goddess Maat personified the equilibrium in the world; she was, therefore, especially associated with the king. On the strength of his divine nature the king was the mediator between the gods and humankind. To describe the king’s divine godlike nature, the Ancestors called the king the living embodiment of Heru.
