The Roseboro Business Luncheon was a success. We appreciate everyone who came out to learn more about Roseboro. This is Sampson Weeklys article about the meeting: Roseboro’s town board is serious when it comes to the financial health and future of their small town and they are going outside of the box in order to accomplish their goal. The town held a luncheon Tuesday in order to recognize and show their support for Roseboro area businesses and provide an overview of the Small Town Economic Prosperity (STEP) program. Alice Butler, Mayor Pro-tem and Roseboro NCSTEP Program Coordinator discussed marketing and communication projects, strategies, activities and incentives designed to help recruit new and expand current business, and to attract new residents. Also discussed at Tuesday’s luncheon was the need for the town of Roseboro to develop and form a Merchant’s Association to better market the uniqueness of Roseboro. Former Roseboro mayor Roland Hall helped to organize Tuesday’s gathering of approximately 45 business owners, community members, and town representatives through funds made available through the NCSTEP grant the town received in 2012. Hall stated, “Tuesday’s gathering was very positive. We discussed the recent survey conducted with the area businesses, and agreed that there was a need to form a Merchant Association. There was an association from many years ago that was very vital to the businesses in Roseboro. Over time interest faded away.” In reference to the formation of the Merchants Association, Hall continued, “We hope to get back together in the Spring. The future of Roseboro depends on how well the businesses in Roseboro come together. The administration of Roseboro can only do so much; the business and the community have to move it forward. The area businesses have to come to the table, take ownership and run with it in order for the town to continue to grow and flourish.” Alice Butler was contacted after the luncheon for comments. Butler stated, “We were thrilled with the response from the community and businesses. Over 30 businesses were represented at the luncheon along with the two county commissioners that represent Roseboro, the Sheriff, a local principal and more. The lunch, served by Railroad Steakhouse, was delicious and the attendees enjoyed networking before the meeting began. Earl Faircloth was recognized for being in business in Roseboro the longest – close to 60 years and Robbie James was recognized for the newest business in town – the Roseboro Batting Institute which has been open less than two month.” Butler continued, “The NCSTEP grant is allowing the town to make some additional grants possible for businesses. STEP leaders will continue to encourage business leaders to form a Merchant’s Association. We will continue to work on improved signage for Roseboro and hope to see the progress by the first of the year.” Butler concluded by stating, “Roland Hall shared with the attendees of many opportunities that are available to them such as grants, training and the web. I hope that they will take advantage of these opportunities –many of which are free.” Town Commissioner Richard Barefoot stated, “NC Step is a stepping stone for Roseboro to move forward. It makes opportunities available to our community that would have never happened on its own. This is probably the most important time in the history of our town if we are going to survive. We need all business owners to come to the table and offer input on how we progress now and in the future.” With any successful business plan you need a clear vision; the Town of Roseboro is on the right tract in preparing a vision which will make them viable into the next century.
