The Royal Hunt Cup Handicap is run today on day two of the Royal - TopicsExpress

The Royal Hunt Cup Handicap is run today on day two of the Royal Ascot meeting and is as competitive as they come. The sight of 32 runners hurtling down the Royal Hunt Cup straight mile at Ascot is a glorious sight for punters and with many live contenders lining-up in this years race. Hope you had our 103/1 treble yesterday….whilst all eyes are on the Royal festival ….minor handicap racing goes on at other tracks and we will give today’s selections at the end of this review? Onto the Royal Hunt Cup Handicap and lets look at past races to see what it flags up? Trends The weight carried appears of little consequence of late with three of the last five winners carrying over nine stone. Looking at previous races to this and winners of the Victoria Cup, Hambleton and the Lincoln Handicaps have performed well Age looks a significant factor as four and five year olds have won fourteen out of the last sixteen running’s. Horses over 10/1 have won seven out of the last nine races. 16 of the 17 winners raced during the past two months. 16 had a maximum of five outings that season. 16 won a maximum of three handicaps. 14 had a maximum of 20 career runs. 14 were drawn in stalls 1-11, or 23 plus; those drawn in 12-22 were 2-158 (1%). 14 won in class 3 or higher. 14 were officially rated 92 or higher, all of whom came since 1999. 14 won over 1m. Those carrying a penalty returned a record of just 1-33. Analysis Plenty to choose from, starting with the current 7/1 favourite, Stirring Ballad which won for us earlier in the season on here. Andrew Balding’s 4yr old stayed on to be 4th in a Listed event at Goodwood last month. He won three handicaps last year including a class 2 Chester over 1 mile. He has since run well twice in Listed company and will appreciate the drop back to handicap company….champion jockey Richard Hughes gets the ride. Jeremy Noseda’s….Burke’s Rock beat Stirring Ballad in that Listed contest at Goodwood and a consequent shortening of the odds applied as she escapes a penalty for that victory here….looks sure to go well with Frankie Dettori booked at a great EW price of 16/1. Educate has won four of his last five races and he has ability in such company. Jamie Spencer is booked again and with the pair now 2-2 together, his current odds of 16/1 again represent EW value. Excellent Guest another 16/1 shot won the Victoria Cup here (7f, good to firm) on his only run this season, fitting the pre-race run profile and the fast ground he needs, he will bid to go one better than last season’ runner-up slot in this race from only a 1lb higher racing weight. Meanwhile, the 7yo Dance And Dance sneaks in near the bottom of the weights, and caught the eye at York last time when in the process of running a big race before getting blocked. The 7 year old went off 7/1 favourite two years ago off a mark of 102 – missing out by half a length to Julienas. He returns this year off a very competitive mark of 96 A winner of a valuable class 2 handicap at Epsom (1m, good) in 2011, he has finally dropped to a winning mark and has been well backed into 10/1 with Ryan Moore aboard to do the steering. He got off to a bad start in the Hambleton when dwelling in the stalls and was doing his best work at the finish. Last year’s winner, Prince Of Johanne, heads back for another crack having run a good second at York last time out…. and is available at 12/1. Verdict Drawn in Trap 1 ideal at Ascot when the ground is firm, EXCELLENT GUEST gets the vote after winning his prep race, the Victoria Cup on this course last month. Recommended Bet: Royal Ascot 2013 Royal Hunt Cup EXCELLENT GUEST 16/1 EW However on the exchanges currently being offered at 171/10 on Bet Butler…sign up and get a free £25 matched bet>>>if it loses...fully refunded offer"...amazing....bit.ly/butler£25 Today’s other Meetings Up at Hamilton in the 17.20….WELLINGROVE runs in the Class 5 9 furlong race for 3yr olds and upwards. He is back in handicap company he should make another bold bid with his main rival likely to be CALL OF DUTY who ran his best race of the year when third at Carlisle on Monday and he´s on a very handy mark. Over to the evening meetings and at Kempton, KING OLAV the 8 year old is on a handy mark. The C&D winner has a record of nearly 50% win and place from his 41 starts and will not allow this to turn into a sprint. Jockey, Tony Carroll has a fair record in apprentice handicaps and looks handily treated on his best form. An hour later, AIR OF GLORY……..scored at Lingfield on his recent racecourse debut despite showing greeness. The Godolphin colt should be in the mix with normal improvement, he has plenty of scope for improvement and is stepped up in trip on his handicap debut. Finally to Ripon and the 21.20 Class 5 1mile 4 f race, the selection is in-form BRIGHT APPLAUSE and the return to Ripon making it more appealing…….he has a record of two from three here, including in this race last year.
