The Russian foreign ministry said the decision shows that the U-S is seeking regime change in Syria and is not trying to resolve the crisis through diplomatic channels. It said the move contradicts the earlier agreement reached by Moscow and Washington to work together on a peaceful solution to the crisis. Syrias foreign ministry also condemned the decision, calling it illegal. It described the unilateral move as a clear violation of Vienna Convention that governs diplomatic relations between nations. On Tuesday, the US State Department ordered the Syrian embassy in Washington to stop its activities. It also shut down two Syria consulates in Texas and Michigan.
