The S.C. Department of Transportation has extended the 45-mph zone on U.S. Highway 17 in the Pawleys Island area. If you are driving north, the speed limit drops to 45 mph just past Hog Heaven. If you are driving south, the speed limit does not increase to 60 mph until just before Hog Heaven. A SCDOT engineer said business owners and residents in the area have been asking for the change for years.
