The SUHI Theatre Rats need angels. Our new show will be “That One True Thing.” It is a series of scenes and monologues depicting and honoring teen girls. I have taken stories and monologues from girls (and some boys) in my classes and from writers’ workshops I held at Sweetwater, and I have adapted them into a full-length presentation. You will hear them tell their stories, told in their way, and in their language (you’ve been warned.) The attention-getter on the stage will be the Power Wall, which will run from the floor to the catwalk on stage left. I will invite the women of the SUHI staff, along with dignitaries from politics, activism and the arts to write messages of empowerment and support to the girls of Sweetwater and everywhere. We need wood and various other supplies to build our rather ambitious (for us) set. We need a ½ inch plywood sheet long enough to cut into an isosceles triangle 18 ½ feet high and 4’ wide. We also need vinyl or Plexiglas to cover it to protect it from vandalism. We need sufficient wood to build 4 other platforms of various sizes and paint for the whole thing. We need to rent and, in some cases, buy several pieces of lighting gear, including several specialty gobos. Contributions are tax-deductible, and benefactors have their names in the program and in the lobby. Major contributors will also have their names in all press releases and advertising for the show.
