The Sadies new CD, brilliant! Internal Sounds is a must! The Sadies, Internal Sounds (Outside). Everyone knows The Sadies as a consummate road band, but they’re no slouches in the studio, either. Internal Sounds, the follow-up to 2010’s Polaris Music Prize-nominated Darker Circles and the first Sadies record to credit frontman Dallas Good as producer, is yet another rock-solid entry in a deep catalogue dating back to the late ’90s. The music is so honest and unfussy it’s easy to overlook the breadth, wit and intricacy of the songwriting, and the impeccable musicianship that allows the quartet to flit between gritty rockers, forlorn folk-pop tunes, bluegrass-tinged country ramblers and starry-eyed psych-outs with such seamless ease. When you’re this good at what you do, you don’t need to show off; you just keep doing what you do and do it better than everyone else. Bonus points for landing Buffy Sainte-Marie to conclude the record with the tripped-out native blessing “We Are Circling.”
