[The Same Way We Weave, the Common Code Our Cultures Share] Across Taiwan, no matter whether they are Kavalan, Tayal, or Amis, the indigenous peoples used to share the same way and the same culture of weaving with the traditional horizontal weaving machine! For example, it was a big no-no for the men of Amis and Tayal to weave with the weaving machine, and only the women could do the weaving job. Why? Well, according to some Amis elders, the warp and the woof that men wove were just like the weeds or the rattans -- symbols of obstacles that might bind a man when he went hunting in mountains, the main task of an indigenous man in the old days, and so a man should not do weaving. -- I believe it was just an excuse for a mans impatience to do it well :P
