The Saturday AARP ride began at 0830 with a route out to Donkeyland. We altered the route a little on the outbound leg by staying adjacent to the rail road tracks after passing through UCR. When we got to Highgrove we headed east into the Donkeyland area staying on the higher double tracks on the north side of the valley. At one point we departed the double track and took several different single tracks that led us down to the old dump entry point. It was near that point that suddenly one of our riders disappeared from the ride group. We heard a faint yell and realized she had some sort of mishap. We all retraced our steps and finally discovered Mrs. Goodperson had taken a spill from her bike. She was sort of wedged downhill in some heavy brush and hardly visible. One of her ankles had become stuck between a crank arm and the chain rings and she was unable to free herself. Uh-Oh and Lumbar who had located her first had to free her foot and hoist her from the odd angle in which she was wedged in the heavy brush. She was essentially unharmed but a little dirt and debris covered. In a few minutes she, and we, were ready to push on. We continued by climbing up on the west side plateau and proceeded back to Sandals where we climbed up to the single track and took it down hill back to the canal. We then rode up Watkins where our group split. Three riders went ahead and Mrs. Goodperson and I headed back though the UCR campus and then home. The other three rode out to where the junior mountain bike races were being staged in Sycamore. We all met up at Subs and Spuds to refuel and tell tales. We covered about 17 miles.
