The Schuyler County Sheriffs Office arrested ten more protesters - TopicsExpress

The Schuyler County Sheriffs Office arrested ten more protesters from the Crestwood site today on SR 14. First and foremost it should be said that they have the right to protest, lawfully, and we appreciate their passion for their cause. With that said, Sheriff Yessman of the Sheriffs Office has stated having to arrest and process these individuals, 10 at a time, is taxing the law enforcement resources of this County and taking them away from being able to respond to true emergencies. During an incident last week the 911 center received a call for a heart attack victim. A patrol had been in the area just minutes ago before being called away to deal with protesters. That person was denied the service of that Deputy for no reason in their time of true need. Situations arise that require law enforcement, fire, and EMS to work together at an incident. Scene security is imperative to my staff at the fire department. My firefighters and EMS personnel at times cant do their jobs without law enforcement presence. If we have to wait an extended time frame to mitigate a hazardous situation because scene security cant be established due to law enforcement being constantly tied up with the individuals who are willing and intentionally being arrested at the Crestwood site than that would be extremely unfortunate. Willingly and intentionally breaking the law should not be celebrated. I think its time that everyones immediate safety and security be considered. Chief Smith Watkins Glen Fire
