The Scotsman today posted the headline, Nicola Sturgeon’s devo-max ‘would lose Scots £5bn’. This on the day that the UK Government admitted that they had increased the deficit by another £100bn this year, in spite of the cuts they have imposed. The headline is based on a report by a new think tank, Fiscal Affairs Scotland who are as about independent as a think tank can be that includes advisors to the Scottish Labour Party. Well it may be fag packet maths guys but it we take Scotland as 8.5% of the UK economy, our deficit should be £8.5bn and so that puts us £3.5bn better off with Nicolas plans. (That the Scotsman seem to know before Nicola has shared).
