The Scott County Fair will be held at the Horse Park from August - TopicsExpress

The Scott County Fair will be held at the Horse Park from August 14-16th. A horse show will be held as on August 16th including a Timed Straightaway Pace. The Straightaway Pace has been designed with rider, horse, and spectator safety and fairness in mind. Below is the rules and regulations for the Timed Straightaway Pace. 1. A negative Coggins is required for all horses entering the show grounds. 2. Horses will be divided based on previous US Trotting Association (USTA) registration. Horses DO NOT have to be currently registered with the USTA. All horses with a USTA freeze brand or lip tattoo (readable or not) must run in Class #2. 3. Horses must run in a Standardbred gait. No galloping / loping / etc. is allowed. This event is designed to be a pace event. Breaks, switching gaits (i.e. trot to pace, rack to pace) will not incur an automatic time penalty as the pace is the fastest natural gait so any variations from it will create its own time penalty. 4. At 5:45 PM the day of the show, the running order will be posted based on random draw. All riders must be present at the time of the random draw which will be held in the Barn area. 5. A rider may enter more than 1 horse in a class but each horse must have its own tack. Time outs for tack changes between horses will not be allowed. 6. Only 1 horse will run the straightaway at a time. Horses will be timed by an automatic timer from Point A to Point B with the judge, horse show manager, and 1 additional person verifying the time. 7. Horses will be timed for 250 feet with 150 feet to slow down in. Riders will have over 300 feet to accelerate in before the timed area. The exact starting point is rider’s preference. The timed area from Point A to Point B will be clearly marked for the riders. (See photo layout for reference. NOTE: The photo layout is not to scale but reference only) 8. Horses must stay on course at all times and must accelerate, run, and slowdown in the designated areas. Going off course will result in a NO TIME for that run. 9. Each horse will be allowed 2 runs with the best time counting. A rider may opt out of the 2nd run if he/she is happy with the 1st run time. However, opting out will forfeit a 2nd run as a rider may not opt out and then elect to run the 2nd run after everyone else has finished. 10. Re-runs will be allowed in cases of timer malfunction or if the judge determines there is just case for a re-run. 11. All horses should be presented within all applicable guidelines regarding horse soundness and welfare including and not limited to the USDA. 12. All horses are subject to testing at any time while on the show grounds, including but not limited to blood samples. Failure to allow testing will result in automatic forfeiture of any entry fees and will become ineligible for any prize money. 13. Horses must remain under control at all times. The show management reserves the right to dismiss horses that present safety issues. 14. Additional clarification of the rules will be posted as needed. 15. All General Horse Show rules will continue to apply as outlined on the Horse Show Program. If you have any questions or need clarification, please feel free to contact the Fair Horse Show Committee at 276-219-1430 or 276-690-8694 or by message on the Scott County Virginia Fair Facebook page. For the safety of our non-horse fair attendees, parking will be directed in addition to posted horse areas. Also, as this is not a sanctioned SCRHA event, classes will not count towards the SCRHA High Point Awards.
