The Sea Spirit and the River Spirit. The first represent Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. The second represents the American Indians. Both are places where the EuroAmericans conducted terrible wars. Healing is needed here and there. I was working on both paintings last night. I started these two paintings before my 900 Mile EPN Ride last year. Strangest thing. I repeatedly was asked by friends, clients, and pure coincidence to consider doing a series of paintings about the mermaid. One of my clients even sent me an illustrated novel of mermaids saying that one of her friends who saw my paintings in her home asked her to ask me to consider creating this mermaid series. Hans Christian Anderson, a Dane like me I might add, wrote the Little Mermaid based on Celtic poetry and literature that was prevalent during the 12 hundreds in Northern Europe, and in Greek Mythology much earlier. They are stories of water nymphs who come to land to aid humans, like Angels. These stories are found in Asia, Africa, Europe, the Americas, even with the Innuit of the frozen lands. All of it comes from a deeper age old truth that the Earth is alive, and we, are not just existing on her, not just a part of her, but we ARE her. Every molecule, every nerve, is her. This is just a scientific truth. The simple truth is that the power of the earth is beauty. It is a beauty that touches us and enters into our deepest thoughts, not as a way to disrupt but as way to inspire, and to guide. Isnt the rain nice. I am a painting fool when it falls.
