The Second District Juvenile Court has launched a volunteer mentor - TopicsExpress

The Second District Juvenile Court has launched a volunteer mentor program in Davis County to benefit court-involved youth. The program—Two Roads—is named after Robert Frost’s poem “The Road Not Taken.” Mentoring has proven to lower recidivism rates for court-involved youth. Research has shown that volunteer mentors can play a powerful role in reducing drug abuse and youth violence as well as boost academic achievement. The Two Roads program will pair a volunteer mentor with a low-risk, high-needs youth involved in Juvenile Court. Volunteers must be at least 21 years of age and commit to six-months as a mentor. In addition, volunteers are required to pass a strict screening process, which includes a background check, interview with program staff, and mentor training. A Two Roads program orientation and training session is planned for Aug. 30. Individuals interested in volunteering should contact Second District Juvenile Court Program Coordinator Steven Jensen at (801) 447-3969 or [email protected].
