The Second Graders at Central School are pleased to share the many positive results of the Coins for Comfort community outreach project. The project began during February, national “Random Acts of Kindness” month. The goal of the project was to collect coins to purchase yards of fleece fabric and fabric scissors in order to make “no sew” blankets to donate to local residents in need of comfort and cheer. Second graders truly learned the value of being a “R.A.K.ster,” bringing unexpected joy into the lives of others-- donating a little, but giving a lot. Second graders collected $550 in coins and dollar bills. From the fabric and materials purchased, 32 blankets were measured, cut, tied, and packaged by the entire second grade. A second grade student who receives treatment at Childrens’ Hospital delivered 10 blankets to patients. A group of second graders visited...the Senior Center at Sachem Rock and delivered blankets for shut-in members of our community. Sachem Skilled Nursing and Rehab to deliver blankets to nursing home residents and the Office of Veterans’ Services at the Town Hall to donate blankets to our town’s Veterans. As the Veterans Agent for East Bridgewater, I would like to say THANKS to the 2nd Graders, Mrs. Quigley and the School Department for putting this together The blankets will come in handy!!
