The Seneca Police Department will be joining the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies nationwide in the National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day this Friday, January 9th. According to a news release from the National Sheriffs’ Association, Concerns of Police Survivors, Inc. (C.O.P.S.) and partnering organizations will unite in support of law enforcement officers nationwide to promote a National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. The release points out that 780,000 police officers in the United States put on a badge of their respective agency and serve their communities and cities. According to stats published in the Sheriffs’ Association release, on average, between 105 and 203 officers die in the line of duty each year, 50,000 officers are assaulted in the line of duty each year, 14,000 officers are injured in the line of duty each year, and over 300 officers commit suicide each year. The National Sheriffs’ Association is calling upon all citizens who support law enforcement to show their support. We have changed our profile picture on our Facebook page to a picture provided by the Sheriffs’ Association that says “I Support America’s Law Enforcement Officers.” Also, a You Tube video that is being provided by the C.O.P.S. organization will be uploaded to the Sheriff’s Office Facebook, Twitter, and Google Plus sites as well. Individuals can also show their support, according to the news release, by changing their profile pictures as well and by uploading the You Tube video to their social media sites (https://youtube/watch?v=uK-0UvwasUc), but, citizens can also show their support in other ways as well: • See a police officer?
