The Shangri-Las - Remember (Walkin in the Sand) Written by George Shadow Morton Peaked at number 14 Songwriter Mortons encounter with Jeff Barry ended with Morton claiming his job was writing hit songs, even though he hadnt written a song yet. When Barry invited him back, Morton had to write a song quickly, and he immediately wrote Remember (Walking in the Sand), which he got a teenage group from Queens, The Shangri-Las, to sing. The opening piano chords are played by then unknown session musician Billy Joel.
